The Sex Factor-Love and Other Drugs

November 29, 2010 § 2 Comments

An old hackneyed story gets spiced up in Love and other Drugs, a movie about a free-spirited girl who falls in love, but is dying. Sounds like you heard it before? Well, you have. Sweet November anyone? or that Richard Gere/ Winona Ryder snore fest, Autumn in New York?
But this film (which stars Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal) is controversial because it goes a step further with some nudity thrown in. Jake Gyllenhaal is a philandering viagra salesman who gets his comeuppance when he meets Hathaway & they dont hold back when they get involved. I hope it’s tasteful. I’ve sat through Ben Stiller doing the nasty on his ‘girlfriend’ in Greenberg (that was embarrassing) & Gerard Depardieu ‘pleasuring’ his (male) cousin in Mammuth, recently. Sexual pioneers are the new x factor in the movies-the noughties are nearly over, y’know!

Directed by Edward Zwick, Love and other Drugs is due here at the end of December.

It started off really fun, and exciting, with a quick pace, that had plenty of good jokes. Then it starts to delve into sappy rom-com cliches, that we all know and hate. However, this film does a good job anyway, with it’s two stars, and their undeniable chemistry.

That’s a pity it descends into rom-com cliches, but that was definitely to be expected. The story has been done before, but I like the pairing of Gyllenhaal and Hathaway. Hathahaal ?
